Basingstoke Canal Trip
Share
10km round trip from Mytchett Canal Centre to Ash Lock and return. A gentle paddle along a section of the Basingstoke canal, which runs through its own strip of countryside. Passing through flashes which are wide lakes of water and have a variety of wildlife including cormorant and Great Crested grebe. Heading along the canal you will paddle on the raised Ash Embankment, this is quite a lofty height and will take you past Ash embankment sluice and weir and then onto the aqueduct over the A331. This section over the embankment is very scenic with wonderful plant life on both sides. You will continue to paddle through woods onto Ash Lock where we will take a break before the return paddle. While suburbia is never far away, this is a lovely gentle paddle enjoying the wildlife and plant life on the canal.
